The end of…

a long weekend…but one of the most fun I have had. Saw the movie “Silent Hill” – visually very satisfying, but by the last 45 minutes of it, we were just ripping on it. Went to J&R’s or is it JR’s? Bought some cologne for a good price. Took part in the “Lost Weekend with Thomas Simpson”. Enjoyed a steak and a shake at “Steak & Shake”. I witnessed fires rekindled and dreams smashed. Spent a butt load of money on gas! Got a flat tire on I85 about a mile from our exit in Spartanburg at 3am! Thanks again to ER for the help in changing that, I still owe you a meal. Also, ER’s buggy got broke into this weekend, bad bad. Saw a full moon on the way home from Burlington.

Here is an excerpt from the book I am reading: “Perfume, The Story of a Murderer” by Patrick Suskind. If you want more info on it, look it up. Basically it’s about a man who is born that emits no smell whatsoever. He does though have an incredible sense of it, and can actually break down smells into their individual parts. It is based in 18th century Paris and the following describes the conditions of the day:

(Before you begin, there is a group of friends who will understand why I posted this – I just thought it was funny to come across this.)

“People stank of sweat and unwashed clothes; from their mouths came the stench of rotting teeth, from their bellies that of onions, and from their bodies, if the were no longer very young, came the stench of rancid cheese and sour milk and tumorous disease. The rivers stank, the marketplaces stank, the churches stank, it stank beneath the bridges and in the palaces. The peasant stank as did the priest, the apprentice as did his master’s wife, the whole of the aristocracy stank, even the king himself stank, stank like a rank lion, and the queen like an old goat, summer and winter.”

I was planning on going to the EWA show in Mooresville tonight, but with the gas situation and plus a late family dinner I was not able to go, sorry folks I will try to make the next one though!
